Empire Cricket Club Barbados celebrates its centenary in England

The oldest cricket club in the West Indies, Empire Cricket Club, is touring the South east of England as part of its centenary celebrations.

The Club Cricket Conference has helped to arrange the itinerary and so far the side has played at various club grounds and Lord’s in a match against the MCC.  Some of their past players have joined the tour, and Robbie Book had the pleasure of presenting his Book, The Reluctant Umpire, to both Sir Everton Weekes – a sprightly 89 years young – and bowling legend Charlie Griffith, who shared his positive personality and forthright views with everyone!

The Empire tour finishes at Cheam where they play against the Conference Representative side.  We look forward to seeing them all next year in Barbados when we have our own centenary tour.
